The type of personal information we collect

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Personal identifiers, contacts and characteristics (for example, name, contact details and equal opportunities monitoring data).
  • Performance data.
  • Medical and health data.
  • Responsible persons personal contact data where anyone under the age of 18 is involved.

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • Interest in finding out more about this campaign.
  • Applying to the campaign as a potential talent athlete.
  • Participating in this campaign as a potential talent athlete.

We use the information that you have given us to contact you throughout the campaign, and where relevant, make performance-based decisions.

We may share this information with the British Olympic Association, British Paralympic Association, National Sport Governing Bodies and Home Country Sport Sports Councils partnered with this campaign. The information may also be used for future research publications.

Under Article 6 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful basis we rely on for processing this information is public task.

Under Article 9 of the GDPR, the condition we rely on when processing involves special category personal data is explicit consent.

One of UK Sport’s organisational priorities is to improve high performance sport in the UK and these processes will help to achieve this priority.

How we store your personal information

Your information is securely stored on UK Sport tenant servers.

The length of time we keep your details associated with this campaign, depends on your involvement. Nominators data will be kept for the duration of the campaign, whilst athlete data may be kept indefinitely, unless otherwise notified. Where relevant, we will then dispose your information by central deletion.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access – You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

Your right to erasure – You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to object to processing – You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
