Hours: 37 hours per week 

Base Location: Watling House, Dunstable or Priory House, Shefford. We are flexible and will encourage home working when applicable.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Schools for the Future team and help shape the future educational landscape across Central Bedfordshire. 

This a fantastic and rare opportunity to lead a once in a lifetime change programme which is a cornerstone of the Council’s ambitious vision for children, ensuring we have the right schools in the right places delivering the best educational outcomes. As a Head of Service you will be a member of Children’s Services senior leadership team and lead a small but effective delivery team. You will be the strategic leader working directly with schools, governing bodies, academy trusts, the Diocese, internal service teams, a project board, decision making bodies, council committees and a range of stakeholders and partner organisations.

You will be educated to degree level or have a number of years relevant management experience. You will have experience of working with a wide range of internal and external partners and stakeholders at a strategic level.  You should be politically aware and ideally understand a council’s governance and decision-making processes.  You will need to demonstrate an empathy for working within an educational context and an appreciation for strong programme management and large scale capital programmes. You will have an ability to prioritise tasks and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Critical to the success of the role is the ability to work with a range of professionals and senior leaders.
